SLIPKID'S Concert Photo Archives - The Hamsters

On one of my UK trips for touring with Wishbone Ash the opportunity arose for me to catch the hardest working band in the world - THE HAMSTERS! I got turned onto them thanks to a friend who loaned me their "Electric Hamsterland" album, which is as you might guess, is an album of Jimi Hendrix covers. These guys can play! If you live in the UK I highly recommend you check out their live set when they come to your town (they are on the road somewhere in the UK practically every night). In addition to playing excellent versions of Hendrix songs, they also do a kickass ZZ Top set, as well as covering many other songs and playing their own material.

The show that I saw I witnessed a couple things I've never seen anyone do before - for instance the guitarist Slim actually sprayed the neck of his guitar with WD-40 in between songs - Yikes! I would never think of letting that stuff near my guitar's neck, but I guess he likes the slickness. Wierd. Also, during the final song of the night, Slim (guitar) and Zsa Zsa (bass) left the stage while playing their instruments and walked around the club, and when they got back on stage it was apparent that during their walk they had exchanged musical instruments. Then so as not be left out of the instrument swapping, Slim handed Zsa Zsa's bass to Otis the drummer and Slim finished the song off by doing a drum solo while the others played on their new instruments.

When Slim walked into the crowd he stopped right in front of me, and amidst the bedlam I was able to get this closeup shot of the Hamstercaster headstock which almost clocked me in the face - I was trying to get a photo of Slim but got jostled by the crowd. Here's Zsa Zsa back on stage after switching instruments with Slim in the crowd. Look closely and you will see that at this point Slim is playing the drums! Slim's gear, complete with WD-40.
